The Maldives’ fish exports expanded by 3.5 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to statistics released by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Fish Exports During The Past Years
Maldives exported the largest amount of frozen fish in 2022 totaling 65,576.3MTS, with Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna being the most exported fish types in the Maldives. Our annual harvest has seen a remarkable ascent in the past four years: From 56,421 metric tons in 2019 to a substantial 76,099 metric tons by 2022. This consistent growth underscores our commitment to sustainable fishing practices and the abundance of marine resources in our waters.
The country exported 78,766 MTS of fish last year, with exports in 2022 totaling 76,009 metric tonnes. While exports in 2022 earned US$146.5 million (MVR 2.2 billion), exports last year were worth US$151.3 million (MVR 2.3 billion). Last year, 54,732 metric tonnes of skipjack tuna were exported, along with 9,272 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna. In addition, 12,417 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish were also exported.

In addition to leading the overall financial and operational direction of the Group, he manages key client relationships and leads select endeavors in the areas of building, construction, infrastructure development, technology, renewable energy, mobile telecommunication. commodity trading, food distribution, and consultancy services. OJ is focused on impacting future generations by developing projects that impact lives, reduce poverty, and combat disease. OJ is a successful executive with over two decades of corporate experience focused on emerging growth situations, leadership development, and mergers and acquisitions. He has extended his business endeavors outside of the USA to the African & Asian continent and the Caribbean islands. OJ is extremely motivated and equipped to address problems seize realistic opportunities with capability, courage, & confidence.
Laknath Boteju
Managing Director
Laknath Boteju brings extensive experience and proficiency across diverse industries to Ploutus Maldives. With a solid background in Business Management, Laknath has showcased his adeptness in various domains. His career spans roles where he has excelled in business administration, marketing, logistics operations, and entrepreneurship. Laknath has managed Tuna processing and fishing operations in the Western & Eastern Indian Ocean regions, engaged in import-export activities in both Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and spearheaded fisheries operations for tuna & skipjack in the Maldives. Furthermore, his leadership involved processing value-added medicinal supplements in Colombo for 100% exports to Japan. Currently, Laknath is engaged in trading Petroleum & Gas products, directly from refineries of unsanctioned CIS countries, expanding his portfolio across international markets.
